DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES
In the Workshop Co-Creating of Inclusive and Mediated Public Spaces, participants will explore the concept of inclusiveness and co-creation of public spaces as a means of citizen empowerment and user oriented design, towards maximising the response to user needs. In particular, participants will reflect on the interactions between people, places, and technology in creating open spaces mashed-up with technology and will investigate how to make use of the opportunities opened up digital technologies to engage and activate citizens around the public spaces in urban areas.
No doubt, digital technologies have greatly changed society and the way people communicate and interact. In turn, digital technologies enable people to capture and share personal experiences in new ways that create new forms of learning, gathering, and communicating across multiple contexts.
This workshop will serve twofold objectives: 1) introduce the issues of CyberParks to specific stakeholders, and 2) gain insights about how decisions in city councils are taken that concerns public spaces and ICT strategies by setting the topic citizen’s participation in the centre of discussion.
In a four days’ programme, participants will work in small interdisciplinary teams towards increasing the understanding on approaches for the co-creation of inclusive public open spaces via digital devises. The programme includes lectures from and discussions with urban designers and leading researchers in related field. Participants will also be encouraged to share and exchange their own knowledge and experiences.
PARTICIPANTS
The workshop is designed as CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and the targeted participants are young urban designers, planners and landscape architects working in the public sector, public managers, policy makers and enablers, urban and cultural activists, PhD Students and Early Stage Career researchers working in the fields of inclusion/diversity strategies and participatory processes.
Reimbursement & Grant
The confirmed applicants from COST countries will be granted for accommodation, daily meals and travel expenses the maximum flat rate grant defined by both TU1306 Project and the Organizing Committee. The maximum reimbursement amount for coming to Lisbon is organized according to the following scheme:
For participants from Lisbon metropolitan area 100€
For participants from other Portuguese Regions 300€
For participants from other countries 800€

EXPECTED OUTPUTS
In a four days’ programme, participants will discuss the co-creation of inclusive public spaces and the role of digital technologies, and working in small interdisciplinary teams, they will develop different concepts for inclusive public open spaces. These will be presented and discussed in a session of the Colloquium on The Relationship between People, Public Spaces and Technology.
The Workshop Co-Creating of Inclusive and Mediated Public Spaces will be open to a maximum of 20 participants.
